Esprit & Eliana

This testimony is written by 12-year-old Eliana Yeo, the youngest member of the family of six. She interviewed everyone at home, asking them how they feel toward Esprit Blessings since he became a part of the family 6 months ago.

Background:

In February 2012, Mercylight put up the photos of 7 puppies for adoption. Esprit Blessings is one of the puppies from the same litter. Eliana and her family have never owned a dog before, but they heard about this adoption news from a friend and were interested to give a home to one puppy. However, their main concern was that they had no experience and knowledge at all about dogs. They had a rabbit which they adopted in 2004 and it passed away last year due to old age.

On 18 February, Eliana and her parents came over to view the remaining 3 puppies – Treasure Blessings, Keeper Blessings & Esprit Blessings. After some time of interaction, they decided on Esprit Blessings. Incidentally, like Eliana and her brother, Esprit’s name also starts with an ‘E’!

The whole family was so excited about welcoming Esprit home that they not only went immediately to buy all the suggested items for him, but they even took a picture and sent it to us.

It is indeed an honor to write this testimony of myself and share how I get to grow my passion for stray dogs. I am brought up in a family which we don’t keep pets and so I grow up with no passion for animals. During my days in the SAF, when I was training in the jungles of Singapore, we sometimes encountered stray dogs in the training areas. I would just give them my combat ration or the remaining rice portion that I don’t feel like eating. To me, these strays were just dirty street dogs wandering around in packs.

Over the weeks, we realised that taking care of a dog isn’t as simple as it sounds. It isn’t just about buying food and giving water or a bed. It’s about responsibility and taking care of a dog is a HUGE responsibility! Most importantly, we have to show love & care towards them.

This is the first time we ever kept a dog and must admit it can be quite tiring sometimes, especially when he is in his ‘frenzy mode’ running about playfully!! Sometimes it hurts us to see him knocking himself in the process of playing. Overall, we are extremely happy to have Esprit as part of our family. The satisfaction is indescribable! Somehow, this little canine is able to bring joy to everyone in the family!

We have never thought of owning a REAL dog… That’s why we had several dog statues around the house. Lol! Although mischievous, young Esprit lightens up the mood of everyone – young and old in the household. He waits and greets you when you return home from school or office. He has the magical power to make you smile.

Esprit has officially entered our family and it would never be the same without him. He is like my little brother now! Sometimes,

I dream of hugging him to sleep!

Every dog is unique and has its own characteristics; Esprit is energetic and obedient, never fail to bring joy to the family.

Feedback from:

(1) Princess of the home - Eliana Yeo

Esprit is my darling; it will never be the same without him! There is a fixed place for him in my heart already. Although he can be quite mischievous and naughty at times, I look forward to seeing him after school; I want him to be with me all the time.

(2) House Keeper - Vicky Tamucder

Esprit keeps me company when everyone is away in school or at work. I do not feel lonely anymore. He makes me happy and angry at times as he play-bites me. But, I still love him and will always hold him close to my heart.

Thank you Esprit for bringing some much joy to me and my family!
