Haru & Tomoko

This is a short testimony written by Got Tomoko Iida, a Japanese lady who has two young girls aged five and seven. They came to Singapore when her husband was given an overseas assignment. Got adopted our 5-week old puppy called “Dazzler Blessing” in February this year. They renamed her "Haru," which means "spring" or "sunshine" in Japanese. They are first-time pet owners.

I started a research about dogs last November as I was interested in getting a dog.

First I found out that about 1000 dogs and cats are put to sleep everyday in Japan. This fact was so shocking to me and my husband and we decided to adopt instead of buying one.

As we may be moving overseas again in the future depending on my husband’s job assignment, we felt that we needed to get one which is big and strong enough to survive a flight. Then I met Kelly with “Kudo” – a young handsome puppy at a veterinary clinic. However, that time I decided not to take Kudo because the vet said he would grow into a large dog, judging from the size of his paws!

Two months later I got a call from Kelly, saying that she had just rescued seven puppies. We went down to her place and met “Haru” there. She was only five weeks old when we took her home. Haru was shy and a bit scared for the first three days, but opened her heart to us very quickly and become a true delight for us!

My kids have learned a lot from her. They could see how the dog shows its emotions; they could also see how it develops and grows as the days and months pass.

But the most important thing which they learned from “Haru” was that taking care of animals is not as easy as they imagined!!! Now “Haru” is getting less jumpy and calmer. She really was a cute puppy, but I feel her more precious and essential now. We’re excited about our new journey with her and so proud that we adopted her from Kelly!
