Romeo & the Ong Family
Wide grins are always in full display at the slightest mention of Romeo during his time at the Mercylight’s kennel. This miniature bull terrier mix is known for his spurt of wild energy and his affection for people shown in his slobbery kisses he gives out freely. With such a lovable dog as himself, it still baffles some of us on why he was without a home in the first place.
Sighted on 18 May 2014, Romeo was roaming along the streets of Pasir Ris Farmway like any other inquisitive dog. However, he was oblivious to the fast-paced vehicles that were driving by and posed a danger to himself. To keep him out of harm’s way, Mercylight took him under our wing and brought him to our kennel. All it took to get him to come running to us was a shrill of a whistle. This showed how friendly he is, and proved a likelihood of him being a pre-owned dog. However, there was no microchip found in him when brought to the vet. From this, it was suspected that Romeo might be abandoned which is sadly a common case where the owner is unable to handle a dog that is too hyper-active such as Romeo and misunderstood for being destructive instead.
What was needed for Romeo is ample space for him to run around, companions who can match up to his boundless of energy, and lastly and most importantly all the genuine love that can be given to him. In came the Ong Family.
The Ong Family, Chee Hoon and his two daughters Yenn and Jane, has since adopted Romeo and has been nothing but loving and attentive to their new family member. Their praises for Romeo are incessant. They said Romeo is not only a very smart dog that learnt his daily routine well, but also is always responsive to any of the Ong family members.
Contrary to popular belief that miniature bull terriers are aggressive, Romeo is a perfect living and breathing example that refutes this claim. This bull terrier gets along with anyone perfectly, even more so with children such as his human sisters - the two Ong girls. Both still under the age of twelve years, the two girls, 8 and 6 years old, adore Romeo, taking him for regular walks and playing with him freely.
Though at the beginning, it is sad that Romeo was the backlash of someone else's lack of love, what matters now is that he has found new love since with the Ong Family. And in return, Romeo has brought so much joy and happiness to them.
